Gout Weed, or Bishop’s Weed, is a persistant invasive in our region. Many gardeners have learned to manage its spread by digging it out (as a rhizome, it spread rapidly underground), or covering it with tarps or cardboard. Be careful not to spread it around your garden or share plants that may carry it to other people. The weed chokes out native plants that pollinators depend on. Visit Wild Ones Mohawk Valley for information about introducing native plants to your yard.

Music Along the Mohawk: Kelly Yacco

Musician Kelly Yacco teaches drum lessons at his studio in New Hartford, Kelly’s Drum Lab. He was formerly drummer in bands such as Touris and Fulton Chain Gang. Every so often, when the stars align, Kelly will invite guest drummers to come to the area to inspire his students, and sometimes, like this week, produce a record. Kelly invited special guest drummer, Bernard Purdie, to Big Blue North Recording Studio in Utica to record a cover of the song Some Kind of Wonderful with local students.

A group of six musicians posing together in a recording studio, with one drummer seated at a vibrant drum set and five others standing behind him, smiling and dressed in a mix of casual and formal attire.
