Remember Fay’s Drugs? A Central New York Favorite

If you grew up in Central New York, there’s a good chance you remember Fay’s.

Fay’s Drugs got its start in 1958, when Henry Panasci and his son, Henry Jr., opened their first store in the Syracuse area. The chain grew steadily from there and became a familiar sight across Upstate New York.

For a lot of people, Fay’s was just part of everyday life — prescriptions, school supplies, film, greeting cards, a quick stop on the way home. By the 1990s, the company had grown to more than 270 stores before it was sold to JCPenney in 1996 and eventually folded into Eckerd.

This old TV commercial is a little time capsule from when Fay’s was still one of the names everybody around here knew.

What do you remember buying at Fay’s — and which local Fay’s store did your family use?
