Mystery Solved: The Rome Bar in This Old Utica Club Commercial

A few days ago, we shared this old Utica Club TV commercial hoping someone might recognize the bar featured in it.

Well, we found it.

A three-story building named 'the Grand' with an awning and large windows, located at the intersection of First Street and Dominick Street. Includes a hair salon window displaying services.

The building is still standing at 295 E. Dominick Street in Rome, and today it’s known as The Grand. The building has had a number of different uses and businesses over the years and has since been renovated to include apartments.

Thanks to everyone who looked at the old commercial, shared memories and helped us track it down.

It’s always fun when a little piece of Mohawk Valley history that survives on old film can be connected to a place that’s still standing today.

Take another look at the commercial below. If you remember this building, the bar, or any of the businesses that were here over the years, we’d love to hear what you remember.

  1. I don’t remember the ad as I was away with the Army at the time, but I certainly remember the Grand Hotel!
