Gray Catbirds and Brown thrashers are closely related, highly vocal songbirds known for mimicking other birds. Gray Catbirds are slender, dark gray with black caps and rusty under-tail feathers, while Brown Thrashers are larger, rusty-brown above and heavily streaked below with long, curved bills. Both thrive in dense, shrubby thickets and are skilled at mimicking other bird songs, with catbirds known for a “mewing” call and thrashers for a varied, loud song consisting of doubled.
